- Fall Cleaning
-
The phrase "spring cleaning" is part of the American lexicon -- everyone knows what it means and most people give their homes a thorough scrubbing once the snow melts and days grow longer and warmer. But what about fall cleaning? As someone who obsessively cleans, I believe that fall cleaning gets short shrift.
As we prepare for the arrival of winter and the winter holidays, what a better time to give the homestead a good going over. For me, the month of October has always involved fall cleaning. I get the gardens ready for winter, cutting everything back, cleaning up, and removing all the remaining flowers. But outside isn't the only area I focus on.
Fall is a great time to clean windows, purge unwanted items, organize closets and drawers, and engage in all those spring cleaning activities.
So, this October, in addition to enjoying the colors on the trees, bringing out the warmer clothes from storage, and getting ready for Halloween, I am also setting some time aside for fall cleaning.
