Fill in the blank

Fill in the blank for me:

On _____(name your holiday or occasion) we always eat ______(fill in the traditional food).

Food plays a large role in many holidays and traditions, making the special time even more special. I know families who always eat fish on Christmas eve. Or turkey. Or ham, etc.

Others tell me that Fourth of July wouldn't be complete with out aunt Gertrude's mustard potato salad. Or that they miss traditional Thanksgivings with grandma's whipped sweet potatos.

Do you associate holidays and special occasions with particular foods? Is there a recipe you always follow for the "perfect" Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, Passover, etc.? Tell me which food traditions matter most to you.

Every holiday has an super easy and super yummy "24 Hour Salad" tradition. Make it, you'll love it!

In a large bowl combine:

2 Cans(drained) Pinneaple Chunks

2 Cans(drained) Mandoran Oranges

1 Cup Mini Marshmallows

1 Cup Shredded Coconut

1 Cup Sour Cream

Mix well and refrigerate overnight to let the Marshmallows soften.

You can thank me later! :)

For me, my Mom's world famous (well, famous to me) macaroni and cheese is always a staple for Thanksgiving.  I think Thanksgiving would come to a screeching halt if there wasn't at least one pan of her dish.

On New Year's Day we always eat Black Eyed Peas served with rice and cornbread. The last several years I've also added a big pot of mixed greens (collard, mustard & turnip) to this dinner. I remember when I was a little girl and my dad use to make the beans on New Year's. He would spend all day cooking them down. I started making them in the crockpot a few years ago and dare I say, they are even better (and easier to make) than the beans dad use to make. Also, dad always cooked them with a hamhock. I prefer to use a couple of hamshanks, which have more meat than the hock.

On every holiday we always eat everything that isn't nailed down.
