Comfort Food

I've been under the weather the past two days, fighting a stomach virus. Nothing serious, but it's left me not wanting to cook or do much else. I should be back to my normal self shortly.

When I feel like this I revert back to comfort food, which for me is toast with butter and cinnamon. It settles my stomach a little, and its the only thing that I find tastes good when I feel this way.

Everyone has their own comfort food. Some of my friends swear by the healing power of warm Coca-cola. Others tell me that peppermint tea does the trick. And depending on what ails you, some of my friends also report the healing powers of vodka heated up with their favorite juice.

What's your comfort food?

When my stomach is upset, I always eat Plain non-fat Yogart. This also seems to help if you get that burning feeling in your stomach. Hope you are feeling better

Some agree with this; some don't. But my family doctor still recommends the good old BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast). I use it for myself and the kids for at least a few days of recovery, and it's yet to steer me wrong!

Beef and XS ... I don't get sick often, but am plagued by frequent headaches that can last for days. I can usually continue to function, although there's the constant dreariness of the 'thudding' pain in my head. When I've had enough of it and aspirin isn't helping, I eat a cheeseburger or a steak. Something about red meat helps cure the headache. And maybe it's the B vitamins? When I first feel a headache coming on, I grab cranberry-grape XS. That sometimes saves me from days of headache agony. Don't know if any of it is scientific, but it's certainly a comfort!
