Later this week, my nephew (also named Gregory) and my sister-in-law will visit for three days. I'm excited to have them come; this will be my nephew's first trip to Michigan. He's 9, and lives in New York City, in the same neighborhood where I grew up. In fact, he lives in the same house my grandmother grew up in. I come from the Howard Beach section of Queens, in case you wanted to take a look at my original neighborhood.

I've got the usual site seeing planned, a trip to the Lakeshore, and other pleasantries. One issue I'll need to resolve is "kid food". I really don't have that much food for kids in the house. No cereal, no milk, no treats, and so on. I'll be checking out the Smart Menu food early this week. I think they have cereal. And everything I've had from this line of food has been really good. In fact, a coworker shared some Lemon Animal Crackers with me and they were excellent.

Most of our meals will likely be eaten out as we visit various places and do the "tourist" things. But there will be breakfast and one or two meals at home. In the meantime, I have some cleaning and preparation to do.

Hey Gregory,

You're in for a good (but exhausting) time! I can recommend the Children's Museum for your nephew. I took   four-and seven-year-old kids there this weekend and they had a blast, but there were still a few things that were over their heads. At $5 a head, it's a pretty reasonable way to kill a couple of hours.

As for food to have in the house - I'd take him to the grocery store and ask him to pick what he'd like to have, with the explanation that it would help me out...

My kids like making, and eating, breads and salads. Quick breads are nice and easy, but my 9-year old is fascinated by the chemistry of yeast breads. Plus, kneading is fun. The way to get kids to eat healthy -- keep them involved in meal preparation. They can't pass up something they made themselves.

Hi Gregory, When we first got in the AmwayGlobal business, my kids were 3 and 5 and there were lots of other kids on the block that were always over at my house. I never bought snacks from the store. The Choices Catalog was my store, and options were limited but still had some good things. Now we have tons of GREAT snack foods and real healthy foods. Look in the Choices catalog and you will see Simply Nutrilite antioxadent juices - stock up! I would also recommend Nutrilite Braniums. they are so much better than gummy bears - and kids love them. Plus all the 100 calorie snack bags of crackers, cookies etc. There is also the greatest soups, mac and cheese, spegetti. You only have to go to the store for fresh fruits, veges and bread. Our milk and chocolate milk is the best. My friend had a snack drawer that she loaded with snack bags from the Choices catalog. Kids loved going to her house-they knew right where the snack drawer was. Have fun.
