Pizza

Tonight, a friend is coming over for pizza. We're ordering from a local pizza place that is quite good. Being from the East Coast, pizza remains one of my favorite foods. And New York City has some of the best pizza going.

Have you tried making your own pizza? I have had the homemade variety at a few friend's homes, but have always found it disappointing. Still, I am thinking of trying to make it one night myself nonetheless. I've been looking around the web for good pizza recipes and have been scanning the local supermarkets for items I'll need.

My favorite pizza is the simple kind -- plain cheese or pizza margherita. I've never been a fan of meat on my pizza.

One night soon, I'll try making it at home and let you know how it goes. I thought it might be fun to have a small "make your own pizza" party for some friends.

Have you made pizza at home? Did you like it? Can you share any pizza recipes?

Hi Gregory. I've done many make your own pizza gatherings. I buy thin pre-made crusts, pesto, tomato sauce, chicken, veggies, sausage, fresh basil, artichokes, kalamata olives, goat and/or feta cheese, fresh mozz., etc. and people top and bake their own. It works well and is easy.

Hi, I make my dough in my bread machine. I use a pizza stone, lay out the dough. Depending on my mood--either thick or thin crust. Drizzle with olive oil, thinly sliced roma tomatoes, crushed garlic, sauteed mushrooms, fresh basil, ripe olives and also depending on my mood feta or italian cheeses. I make a standard pepperoni for my husband because he seems to have an aversion to anything non-traditional. :-)

Mmmmmmm pizza!! Home made... Domino's... Little Ceasar's... Rose's... That is totally my pregnancy weakness right now!!! When I say right now... I really mean for the last 6 months or so. I'm hoping the pizza cravings end after the baby shows up in May. I keep trying to justify it to the rest of the Quixtar Health Team - Pizza has all the main food groups: bread, dairy (cheese), vegetables, meat... I don't think they're buying it. ;-)

I use a foccacia recipe for the crust, a basic garlic-basil-tomato paste sauce and toppings of choice. Everyone gets their own small pizza, grilled or baked on a stone (sprinkle cornmeal on the stone first).
