More Veggies?

Like you, I read the various nutritional and medical advice to eat more veggies. And I read the food pyramids and other literature talking about several "servings" a day of veggies.

I like vegetables. I really do. And I want to eat more of them. But I am a bit perplexed as to how to make them a larger part of my diet. For starters, I am not even certain what a "serving" looks like. Did I get a serving of veggies in my veggie and cheese omlete this morning? And veggies aren't exactly the easiest food to get in on the run. Many, although not all, need to be cooked. Its hard to eat brocolli as a "quick" snack without going through the hassles of steaming it.

The challenge is how to get your veggies when you are not eating a sit-down, cooked meal, but grabbing something fast on the run.

How do you get your veggies? I am open to any and all strategies.

That's an easy one--you just take your favorite beverage and use it to swallow one tablet of Nutrilite Concentrated Fruits and Vegetables, twice a day. Or, grab a Frujian bar. On the run or at your desk, it's the only way to get all the fruit and veggie nutrition you need, every day.

It's well documented that our current crops' nutritional value is just a fraction of what it was 50 years ago--a consequence of over-farming, genetic manipulation and chemical fertilizers. Did you know that plant genetecists have produced the beautiful looking produce we see in the market--but the price of the pleasing visuals is nutritional value? That means that it is almost impossible for us to get the right nutrients from the foods we eat--not to mention avoiding the pesticides and fungicides being used. Is organic the answer? It's better, but still not enough. Although there are more organic-based products being sold, organic farming methods cannot sustain the needs of a hungry global marketplace.

I'm not suggesting we replace healthy food choices with pills. The fact is, we need both to supply our bodies and minds with the nutrients for optimal health. Eat your apples, carrots, salads and broccoli. Since these things don't come with a nutritional analysis, also take your F & V supplements so you don't have to wonder if you've gotten enough of the right stuff!

I was reading a book the other day on this issue and it said something along the lines of "the bad news is that you need more servings than you think - the good news is that a serving is smaller than you think!"

Fresh, raw, organic broccoli is very nice by the way! Particularly with a dip.

Frankly, from my research even if you eat lots of fruits and veggies, you may still not be getting enough nutrients. I've a pile of research papers sitting behind me that show the nutritional content of food has dropped dramatically in the last 50 years, particularly in the west. Even organic doesn't necessarily help, since in some cases the seeds themselves have lost the genes, and thus ability, to produce key nutrients. The plants didn't need them any more as they're protected from the normal elements of nature through modern farming practices. Over the years, the genes simply got bred out.

The solution?  Nutrilite Concentrated Fruit & Vegetables of course!

But in a more "foodie" sense, I try (but often fail) to have a bunch of cut up carrots, bell peppers, brocolli, celery, whatever in the fridge to have as a snack.

Vegetables not only supply vitamins and nutrients but also fiber which helps move the digestive system along.

When I am being good I have baby carrots around.  I leave some in work and at home.

Gregory! Try making soup. You can cram all kinds of veggies into a nice, rich soup, and being the chef you are, you'll have a blast experimenting. True, you'll need a microwave, unless you make it as a gazpacho or veggie vichyssoise. Love always.
