Autumn Food

Here in West Michigan it's been feeling a lot like Fall. The high temperatures have only been reaching the upper 60s. And while this may not last, it certainly feels good and "Fallish". I love this weather.

I know many readers live in areas where it is still very much Summer. And I know that Autumn does not officially begin until the 22nd. But I wanted to start talking about Fall food.

It seems that some foods have a definite seasonal association. Watermelon is terrific, but its even better on a hot day in July. And I love beef stew, but I love it even more on a chilly day in January. Some foods just fit better in certain times of the year.

Here are some foods that make me think of Fall: squash, sweet potato, roasted chicken, soups, home baked bread, turkey, and pumpkin pie. And pumpkin pie is my hands-down favorite! And its good for you too, with ample amounts of vitamin A and other healthy stuff.

Over the next few weeks I will be posting some seasonal recipes. Share with me your fall favorites!

My favorite Autumn food is, without a doubt, chili. I wait all summer long for the temp to drop so I can make a big steamy pot along with a pan of cornbread. Red chili or white, as long as it's spicy.

Got a good chili recipe to share?
